Gian Rojas Rodriguez Named ITA All-American, Making History for USC Sumter Men’s Tennis
Sumter, SC — May 29, 2025 — USC Sumter is proud to announce that Gian Rojas Rodriguez, a standout student-athlete from Ecuador, has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American. This prestigious honor marks a historic milestone as the first-ever All-American selection in the history of USC Sumter and its men's tennis program.
Rodriguez's 2024–2025 season was nothing short of extraordinary. In the fall, he captured the program's first ITA Regional title, earning a coveted spot in the ITA Cup, where he competed against the nation's elite. His momentum carried into the spring season, where he consistently faced and triumphed over top-ranked opponents, playing a pivotal role in leading the Fire Ants to their sixth consecutive appearance at the NJCAA National Championships.
In doubles play, Rodriguez and his partner, Andre Dogbefu, delivered a record-breaking performance by advancing to the Flight 1 Doubles Semifinals — the best finish in program history.
Capping off a historic year, the USC Sumter men's tennis team finished 9th in the final ITA national rankings, their highest placement to date.
"Gian's dedication, resilience, and competitive spirit have elevated our program to new heights," said USC Sumter Head Coach Andrew Bartelmo. "This recognition is a testament to his hard work and the bright future of USC Sumter tennis."
Rodriguez's All-American honor not only celebrates his individual excellence but also signals a new era of achievement for USC Sumter Athletics.
